Artist : Anthem
Country : Japan
Release : Heraldic Device [Reissue]
Year : 2011
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

Anthem were one of a handful of Japanese bands with similar histories, that being a brief glimpse of worldwide fame due to the release of a few early albums outside Japan, followed by a lengthy career relegated to their homeland. Their early work (the only material reviewed here) was similar in style to countrymen Loudness or Earthshaker.
Disbanded since 1992, the group reformed in 2000 and released the novel Heavy Metal Anthem album, a reworking of some older Anthem tunes now featuring noted vocalist Graham Bonnet. Since then, original vocalist Eizo Sakamoto (who hadn't sung with the band since 1987) has returned to the group, and the band has prospered since.

Artist : Lee Z
Country : Germany
Release : Shadowland [Japan Edition]
Year : 2005
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

This is actually a comeback album from this German band, their first album "Primetime" (available only on vinyl) was released back in 1989. The band's 3rd album "Time Will Tell" was released through InsideOut in 1995, and is today a very sought after album on the internet. Their last album - entitled "Alive" - before "Shadowland" dates back to 1999, so it's been some what silent in the Lee Z camp for some time.
"Shadowland" is my first taste of Lee Z, and I must admit, that I think their mixture of melodic metal, progressive rock and metal is a nice and refreshing treat. 10 well crafted and played songs, all of them sound fresh and the album has a good production that fits the songs very well.

Artist : Visions Of Atlantis
Country : Austria
Release : Trinity
Year : 2007
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

"Trinity" (2007) is the third release from Austrian symphonic metal band Visions of Atlantis, and their first (and only) with singer Melissa Ferlaak.
VoA has improved in almost every area since their last release, "Cast Away." The production is improved, making the musicianship sound better, and Mario Plank's vocals sound better here as well. And Melissa Ferlaak is a perfectly good singer, although I liked what Nicole Bogner did for them.

Artist : In Flames
Country : Sweden
Release : Clayman [Reloaded Edition]
Year : 2000
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

2000's Clayman followed on the heels of a series of absolutely perfect melodic death metal albums by In Flames: Colony, Whoracle, and The Jester Race. While Clayman was very much a Swedish melodic death metal album, it was obvious the band had updated the sound a bit to include some more modern elements. It wasn't a radical departure from their signature sound (like later releases Reroute to Remain or Soundtrack to Your Escape), but you can see that In Flames was moving beyond the established formula.

Artist : Hypocrisy
Country : Sweden
Release : A Taste Of Extreme Divinity [Reissue]
Year : 2009
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

There is a crushing sound that really calls back to the early days of hypocrisy (before peter was on vox) and a mix of everything since that really pulls together for something that is in one word...Amazing. before this album i really dug hypocrisy's penchant for mid tempo songs(see "abducted" or "the final chapter"), but with this new offering (the bands 11th in case anyone didn't know), they are completely "full speed ahead". at times sounding "black metallish" thanks in part to relative new comer "horgh" (of immortal fame). furious rhythms and blinding double bass are very prevalent on this album only slowing down on a few tracks like, "global domination" and "the quest", bringing back that mid tempo pacing that really sets this band apart from other death metal acts. songs like "weed out the weak" and "valley of the damned" are out of the gate head banger's, making these two the bench mark for this release.

Artist : Metallica
Country : USA
Release : ...And Justice For All [Japan Edition]
Year : 1988
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 VBR

Info:

After an extended layoff period and a classic `covers' ep, Metallica returned with a vengeance on AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. All the anger and sadness they held in on the death of bassist Cliff Burton was unleashed on the record buying public. The album is full of seething vocals and complex chord and tempo changes, with melody at its centre. Lars Ulrich (drummer) and Kirk Hammet (lead guitar) have never played better. Unfortunately for new boy bassist Jason Newsted, the house producer Fleming Rasmussen buries his contributions way into the mix, so it sometimes sounds like he's absent. However, this complaint aside, if you wish to hear some truly angry heavy metal way before `Rage Against The Machine' raised its collective voice in protest, check out the true rage and beauty of this release.

Artist : Metallica
Country : USA
Release : Harvester Of Sorrow
Year : 1988
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 VBR

Info:

Artist : Metallica
Country : USA
Release : Kill 'Em All [Japan Edition]
Year : 1983
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 320

Info:

The original Metallica: James Hetfield (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Cliff Burton (Bass Guitar), Lars Ulrich (Drums) AND DAVE MUSTAINE (LEAD GUITAR)!!! Most of the leads and riffs you'll hear on Kill 'Em All were written by Dave Mustaine which is why the 1st Metallica album sounds more like a Megadeth record than any other Metallica record. Kirk Hammett stepped in admirably to fill Mustaine's huge shoes but one is only left to wonder, if Mustaine had stayed in Metallica would they be the running joke that they are today? Probably not. Anyway, Kill 'Em All is a flawless rundown of Metallica classics from The Four Horsemen to Motorbreath to Seek and Destroy, the riffs just keep coming. Of all the Metallica albums, this is the one that I listen to the most. Some critics and fans may say that their subsequent albums (Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning) are better but to me this is the truest representation of what Metallica was meant to be. An absolute must-own classic!

Artist : Metallica
Country : USA
Release : Master Of Puppets [Japan Edition]
Year : 1986
Genre : Heavy Metal
File Type : mp3 VBR

Info:

Master of Puppets illustrates why Metallica was one of the most important metal bands ever.
After giving birth to thrash with Kill 'Em All, Metallica began refining their innovations with Ride the Lightning, which added a bit more maturity and compositional quality. Master of Puppets is a much larger step in the same direction, and had the band incorporating more progressive elements into their music. It'd be hard to count the metal bands doing half the pioneering things Metallica was doing.
The acoustic, quiet introduction to "Battery" explodes under an aggressive onslaught of hyperkinetic, muscular riffs and thick, heavy arrangements that characterize the entire album. That's not to say it's redundant, though. All eight songs are excellent, featuring enough variation of tempo and texture to ensure that they never get boring, which is crucial when some songs extend for eight minutes ("Master of Puppets," "Disposable Heroes," "Orion"). Cripes, you could dissect the riffery of the title track and probably create half a dozen normal metal songs. That"s part of Metallica's appeal: they cram a ton of ideas into their music, but all songs are perfectly crafted without the slightest sense of disjointed songwriting.
