The last few albums ZZ Top released were all going back to the old sound but with a dirtier, fuzzed make over. There were always some good tracks and some ordinary ZZ Top numbers which if more focused, could've been better. However, since the band's been using the same formula and same producer from album one, they never pushed further or focused to make an entire album worthy of comparing to their peak efforts. On 'Mescalero the dirty sound and the rough blues vocals are there, and they still got the groove and the heart to do an instantly memorable record.

The Swedish band is, like Children of Bodom (sans keyboards), essentially taking a Maiden and Priest-inspired traditional metal sound and speeding it up and adding ferociously growled vocals. The melodies and lyrics are old school metal, but the aggression factor is squarely in melodic death territory. It's a good combination, and the band pulls of the sound really well. Standouts include the fierce epic "King of My Kind" and the anthem "Heavy Metal Kid," but there really isn't a weak moment on this album.
Obviously, Brimstone is going to appeal most to fans of Children of Bodom, Norther, Skyfire and the like, but it should go over well with most fans of melodic death metal as well as open-minded traditional metal fans. Unfortunately, Carving a Crimson Career was the band's only release.

Produced by maestro Paul May, striking cover art from Rodney Matthews and a good dollop of the heavy stuff from one of the UK's finest practitioners. The opening couple of songs "Midnight" and "Why" blaze away in a time honoured, somewhat stylised manner, leading to a pleasing, raw acoustic track "Kick It" on which Dave Rowley's emotional vocal ability goes down a treat. Nice bit of harmonica too, Dave. The title track is predictably a total bash, high on the sheer aggression register. "In The World" has a powerful, confrontational lyric and thudding beat that drives the message home. 10 tracks of good rock/metal strong on truth if lacking any particularly distinctive ingredients.

One afternoon in late 1993, according to drummer Chalo Quintana, Izzy Stradlin left the Ju Ju Hounds’ studio for cigarettes and never came back. Two years earlier, he’d left Guns N’ Roses, by then the biggest rock n’ roll band on the planet, in only slightly less casual circumstances. It seems Axl Rose wasn’t the only member of Guns N’ Roses who has difficulty working with others; most accounts of the Ju Ju Hounds break-up concede that Izzy simply didn’t want to work with another dominant personality- so he left.

Stradlin resurfaced in 1998 with 117 Degrees, his first “solely solo” release. Five years is a long time to drop of the face of the earth: Axl was by now the only original member remaining in Guns N’ Roses, Izzy had cut his hair, and his original music had come along leaps and bounds. Izzy Stradlin & The Ju Ju Hounds wasn’t a particularly distinctive album, heavily indebted to The Rolling Stones, The Faces and The Clash. Conceived primarily as a reaction to the elaborate stadium rock that the latter-day Guns N’ Roses had become under Axl Rose (and that Izzy had only a minor role in creating), it was a return to that band’s roots. The follow-up was to be an entirely more adventurous album.

When Total Eclipse was formed in the early '90s, some of its members had impressive resumes. Lead singer Bernie K had been with the superb all-black heavy metal band Sound Barrier, while guitarist Victor Johnson had been a member of the fun and slightly less obscure Bus Boys. This metal/hard rock release -- sort of Living Colour meets Mother's Finest meets Led Zeppelin -- isn't as original as either Sound Barrier or the Bus Boys, but it isn't anything to be embarrassed by either. The rockers bring plenty of spirit and positive aggression to originals like "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," "Fire in the Rain" and "Get Outta Yo' Baby," as well as the Commodores' 1973 funk hit "Slippery When Wet," which works surprisingly well in a metal setting. Regrettably, the same adjective that describes Barrier and the Bus Boys also describes Eclipse: obscure.

A SIG:AR:TYR full length album is always a pretty grand thing. His debut saw the listener embark on a cold, dark journey alongside an army of northern warriors. In 2008, Beyond The North Winds saw the band experiment with the more important use of distorted guitars and added soundscapes. The end result was another magnificent outing that didn’t have the same feeling of togetherness as the debut but was saved by the sheer quality of each song. Now after having his album to experiment go so well, you’d expect the next album, the one where he puts his experiments to proper use, to be breathtaking? And, you would be correct.
On Godsaga, Daemonskald has taken the best elements of both his full lengths and combined it into one powerload of an album. The album brings back the electric power found on Beyond the North Winds but while giving the feeling of a linear journey the same way the debut did. Everything feels like it was placed where it is for a reason, as a driving force, pushing the album forward with every song. The album goes through moments of triumph (Eternal Return) and moments of darkness (Blood Of The North, Sleep Of The Sword) without ever feeling like anything is out of place but rather like it is demonstrating a new aspect of its main theme (Odin’s sacrifice on the world tree of Yggdrasil).

Steeler is best known as the band that brought Swedish guitar shredding sensation Yngwie Malmsteen to the U. S. of A., and to a lesser extent, as one of singer Ron Keel's first outfits. However, Malmsteen was only briefly a member of the group, while Keel was present from the beginning (1981) to the end (1984), as evidenced by selections on the 2006 compilation American Metal: The Steeler Anthology. The group only managed to issue a lone full-length studio effort during its brief tenure together, 1983's Steeler (which did feature Malmsteen), but Keel had a fair amount of demos and live tracks laying around, which comprise this 16-track compilation.

Mad, Bad and Dangerous is the second album released by the late-80s hard rock band Blue Tears. The band was one of many that were swept under the rug when alternative and grunge arrived, leaving lots of unreleased material shelved.
Long after the band members got involved in other projects, some of these unreleased material started to surface on the Internet. Bandleader Gregg Fulkerson decided to compile an album of most of this material and release it officially.
The album was finally released in 2005 by Suncity Records. It marked, perhaps, the return of the band, since they released an all-new album The Innocent Ones the following year.

Their first full-length release proves just how powerful and dynamic female-fronted metal really is, and it has the ability to shift the regular atmosphere of that typical heavy metal band. Satanic Rites are indeed a very melodic band, providing us with a different take on that NWOBHM sound we are so fond of. Yes, keyboards are very much present, but hell, I love the whole vibe it emits, especially when it overlaps the crunching guitars and Deborah Webster's amazing vocal work. Classics are indeed present on this album and are quite evident. "Burn in Hell" and "Don't Tell Lies" are very well written songs and it is safe to say that the vocals do really make these tracks what they are, true magic and very uplifting to the spirit
